Man pinned under RV still 'critical'

Staff Report PORT ORANGE -- An Ocala mechanic remained in critical condition Friday night at Halifax Health Medical Center with injuries suffered when he was pinned under an RV. Dennis Richardson, 55, was working on the Winnebago motor home Thursday afternoon when it rolled off its elevated ramps and landed on top of him, a Volusia County sheriff's report states. The report said the mechanic came to a residence in the 6100 block of U.S. 1 to fix the rear seal of the vehicle's transmission New Year's Day. The RV's owner, Alan Allison, 68, Port Orange, told the investigating deputy he believes the motor home rolled backward after Richardson disconnected its drive shaft. The report states Allison heard Richardson yell for help and saw him pinned. He jacked up the front of the RV and with the help of another bystander, pulled the mechanic free. Richardson complained about pain in his torso, Allison told the deputy. Several attempts to reach Allison by telephone Friday were unsuccessful.
